Fashion is cyclical. Whatever fad you simply cannot let go of (
scrunchies, ribbon chokers, butterfly hair clips ) if you hold on long enough…
trust me…..it will come back. It’s surefire. ‘What comes around goes around’… We have all heard the phrases. This being said, the Lingerie-ista in me, is thrilled to see more boudoir silhouettes, lingerie details and overall inspiration being drawn from intimate apparel on the runways.
Not since the Nineties, a la Gaultier circa Blond Ambition Tour, have I seen such a strong lingerie influence that spans across the Fashion Smorgasbord. Here are some of my favorites: Fenty Puma by Rihanna F/W 2016, Givenchy S/S 2016 Ready-to-Wear and Balmain Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear.
What is exciting about this transition of acceptance of this trend is so much more than merely showcasing a neon bra under a transparent top, strutting a Victorian corset over a tee or even replacing a bland cardigan with a floor skimming wave of a maribou feathered peignoir a la Mae West meets Bjork. The growing acceptance for these innovative silhouettes can act as a stepping stone to removing the slut shaming label of being ‘that kind of girl’ if she dare to indulge in the style.
What are some of your favorite moments when fashion & social change brushed shoulders down the catwalk?
